Before I say anything else… HAPPY FRIDAY!!!! I am so excited to have the weekend off to relax, and going to see “Thats My Boy” tonight with the hilarious Adam Sandler. Yay for date nights! So I received another email today regarding Ask Me Friday’s and I have to admit that I have been a bad bad blogger on these :( Sorry to everyone who has sent me requests but I have been so incredibly swamped lately! Instead of doing every Friday I will probably do these more like once a month so I can continue keeping my clients happy ;) Here are a few questions I have received over the past few weeks and I hope you find them helpful! I am in no way an expert but these are just some tips/techniques that I have found helpful!

QUESTION by Amanda P: Where do you find your locations for shooting? Do you have the client’s choose them or do you already know where you want to take them?

ANSWER: Hey Amanda! I usually suggest a location for their session based on what type of look they want i.e. rural, urban, etc. My style is directed more towards rural so they usually ask to shoot in one of my favorite fields. However, I am going to start having my client’s choose their own locations because I want them to have the option of choosing a place that is personal/special to them. If they still can’t decide then I will of course suggest a location!

QUESTION by Erin S: Any suggestions for getting Facebook likes? You have a TON!

ANSWER: Thanks Erin! I have been working on different techniques for getting more “likes” but have found that the most successful way is by writing interesting content and running contests. I try to update my page with business and personal info at least once a day..whether it be by posting a fun pinterest find, blog post, pictures of clients, picture of my dogs, etc. Always try to keep it interesting and always be YOU! You are the most unique element in your business and you will attract people that are interested in the same things as yourself; in turn, attracting the perfect client! ;) Tip: If you post images then tag people..the more people in the image the more tags. I don’t like to run too many contests; however, the most successful contest I ran was when I gave away a free engagement session and got around 800 likes or so. I cannot remember the exact number but it was a lot and the girls running against each other were sending out mass emails to get votes from friends & family!

QUESTION by Sara A: How do you get that haziness in your images? Do you use actions to get sunflare?

ANSWER: Great question Sara! I never ever use actions to get sunflare/haze in my images! I personally think it looks fake and it is just too easy to get the real thing! My favorite time to shoot is about 1 hour before sunset and I love to use my 50mm 1.4. I like to shoot backlit and this will easily create the effect you are describing. It might take a little practice at first but it will eventually become second nature! Always remember to expose for the skin and this usually requires you to overexpose a tad!

That is it for this installment and I hope I helped a few of you! More to come next month – promise!!!
